I went to the Lincoln Creek Duck Club to shoot ducks today. I went with Oly, Hal, Moe, the springer, Flick, and the Lab, Hoss. We shot and nice diverse mix of duck to include mallards, widgeon, and pintails. I shot my first pintail, ever, today. I'll try and post a couple of pics tomorrow. I'm bushed tonight.

It was a long haul to get out to the blind, especially in the dark when you don't know where you are going. We drug a sled/boat full of dekes, guns and the impedimenta you think you need to make it a comfortable hunt. We drug the boat over wet grass and walking water in a flooded pasture. Once we got to deeper water, it was quite nice but when you walk a half mile in that kind of situation, it is tiring and my blood was up. Since I was the guest, I got to stay in the blind and keep the dogs company while the guys set up the dekes the way they wanted. That was OK with me. It snowed and rained while they were doing it but I was warm and enjoyed the breather.

After the dekes were out, we sat for 15 minutes and it was shooting time they said it was unusual as we did not have any ducks coming into the dekes. Usually 100's were trying to get to that spot. soon a lone hen widgeon came in but she failed to leave. we went for 1.5 hours without seeing another duck and everyone was getting discouraged. About that time the pintails started coming in and I got a nice bull spring out of the second bunch. after that we started getting a mix of mallards, pintails, and widgeon coming in in singles, pairs and small flocks. We nickeled and dime'd 12 birds and I was able to take a double on mallards and a double on widgeon before the morning was over. everyone got shooting and was feeling much better. We packed up at noon and went back to the Grange for some of Oly's wife's chicken soup.

I was shooting Remington Nitro Steel #3's and Kent Faststeel #2's and swear by them. I've real good luck with that one box of 3's, still have a few left and the past few years have killed a good dozen birds from that box.
